Divali Celebrations

Divali celebrations took place during the week beginning 3rd of November. Hong Soon Har, parent of Zara in 2nd class, visited all classes to talk about the festival of Divali as celebrated by Hindus all over the world and especially in India. Hong, assisted by Poonam, Moi and Rachel, all parents in the school, organised an assembly for all classes at the end of that week.

The hall was beautifully decked out with the wall hangings with a distinctly oriental look and the children’s Divali art work.
Moi recounted the story of Rama and Sita to a rapt audience. Then the children each lit a diva (light), threw some petals at the shrine of Hindu gods and goddesses, received a bindhi on their foreheads (if they wished) and sampled some typical food associated with Divali celebrations. A memorable and educational morning was had by all. Many thanks to Hong and her team for making it possible.
