Welcome to the Third class web page! Here are some pictures of the activities and work we have done so far this year. We Hope you enjoy looking at them!
We made blackberry jam
First we picked lots and lots of blackberries and washed them.
Then we boiled the berries to make pulp. We pressed the pulp through a sieve to make juice.
Next we boiled the juice and added sugar
We had to check to see if the boiled juice had set into jam.
After the jam had set properly, we put it into jars that we had collected.
Finally we enjoyed eating our jam with bread and butter. Yum!
Having enjoyed our jam, we then read the poem 'Blackberry Picking' by Séamus Heaney.
Having discussed the language in the poem. We picked out our favourite line and drew a picture to represent it.
We visited Glendalough to celebrate National Tree Day
The children did orienteering to complete a quiz. Using a map the children had to find different trees. On each tree there was another question.
This old church is nearly a thousand years old
This year we looked at Stone Age cave drawings and responded with our own drawings!
Here's how we made our pictures
First, we mixed sand with PVA glue and painted this on to paper.
When it dried it made a rough texture.
Next, we painted over it with grey paint (with just a bit of paint on a thick brush).
Finally, when the grey paint was dry we drew our pictures using chalk pastels.
This is a video showing the pictures we made of fireworks over buildings at night. We recorded some children reading out their own poems about fireworks. We put the audio and video together. We put the sound of Fireworks in the background for effect. Boom!
Here's how they looked on the wall
