Maths Week
This week is maths week. We have continued with fun activities during station teaching. Data is one of our topics that we are covering. We collected data on the children's favourite fruit. From this we created a human Bar chart. The children had so much fun doing it.
Our Buddies
Station Teaching
Every Monday the children do an hour of Maths Stations, this is a combination of numeracy, operations, RSGM (ready, set go maths program) and the topic that we are covering. On Thursday's we do an hour of Literacy this covers letter formation, blending, digraphs, games and pre-writing exercises.
Digraphs
The children are finished revising the single sounds of the Jolly Phonics Program. They have now moved on to digraphs. These are two letters that make one sound. So far we have covered 'sh', 'ch' and 'th'. To make learning more fun we use the interactive videos from both Jolly Phonics and Little Learners ( see below for examples). The children also use games during Station Teaching to reinforce them.

The children foraged with their buddies collecting leaves and other autumnal pieces. They created amazing leaf animals out of them. They also experimented with watercolour and wax crayon resistant painting.
Aistear Theme: Autumn
The children have been working really hard on their Aistear Topic this month. They have read picture books based on the subject, created poems and beautiful art pieces. They have really enjoyed the introduction of the Autumn Sensory tray also.

Our First Trip to the Library
Art: The Strand of Paint
The children have been exploring different elements of paint. They have made some lovely symmetry pieces and tried blow art using diluted paint and straws.
Aistear: Houses and Homes
Homes and Houses is our theme for the month. We have read stories about children moving houses. We have learned new vocabulary based around the different type of dwellings and who lives there. The children do Aistear for a half an hour every day, they change activities daily. At the end of the week they have completed five separate activities. There are various different areas we cover ; sociodramatic play area, arts and crafts, fine and gross motor, messy play, construction, oral language and literacy/numeracy. The children really enjoy the dynamics of these lessons.
Revision of Individual Jolly Phonics Sounds
The children are revising the single jolly phonics sounds this month before moving on to digraphs (two letter sounds). They have revised letters from A-M in class. We brainstorm words beginning with the letter, we listen to the song from bounce patrol (please see link below) and complete a worksheet. and will revise the other letters at home for homework. |
